INDIAN BONSAI ASSOCIATION
A very interesting program was organised on the 9th of November 2024, by the Indian Bonsai Association , to learn more about the different species of trees found in Delhi .A visit to the Lodhi Gardens and a talk by Mr Rana from NDMC, who gave his special insights and valuable information about each tree . It was a wonderful learning experience for all the members. Besides gaining knowledge about trees another interesting aspect added to the program was a talk by Professor Shama Chenoy . She explained the architecture and design development of the park and the ancient buildings existing in the complex.
27st August 2024 , IBA members were honoured to have Padam Shri Brahmdeo Ram Pandit ji, a renowned
Studio potter and craftsman. His contribution in the field of art has been recognised and awarded by several organisations. He brought with him beautiful Bonsai and ikebana containers for the members of Indian Bonsai Association, who were happy to add to their collection.
21st August 2024 , our President , Ms Saveena Gadhoke organised a workshop for members of the Indian Bonsai Association to participate and learn the technique of wiring a bonsai .
It is an important aspect for designing and shaping a plant . Ms Syama Balbir, our past president, conducted the workshop and shared her expertise on it .
27th of July 2024 , another meeting was held at India International centre.
Members of the club brought their plants to participate in the pruning workshop. Under the guidance of senior members, a very successful and joyous group activity was organised. The new secession for the year 2024 to 2025 for Indian Bonsai Association once again began under the leadership of President Saveena Gadhoke.
On 16th July 2024 was the first meeting, Mr Saumik Das was invited to present his demonstration on a landscape, designed to simulate an Indian Village. IBA members were enthralled by his design. It was an enjoyable first meeting.
Annual General Meeting for the year 2023 to 2024 was held on 2nd May at Panchshila club , New Delhi. President Saveena Gadhoke and Board members read out their annual reports. There was a talk on Adenium and the technique of grafting by Mr S L Gupta. Followed by a fun filled Raffle, where the members were delighted to receive gifts of plants , books and bonsai pots. February brings in the blooming flowers and a new vigour in nature. With the onset of spring, comes new buds and a time to work on bonsai. Mrs Renu Vaish invited IBA members to her beautiful farm on the 28th February, where the next meeting was organised. Ms Purnima Savargaonkar, A former ISRO scientist was invited to give a talk on the use of pesticides and insecticides. Mrs Renu Vaish also gave tips on how to prepare your bonsai for display. February heralds in spring and a time to start work on your bonsai .The Indian Bonsai association invited Mr Ravindran on 13th February to give a demonstration and share his expertise on casuarina plants. He not only beautifully transformed several bonsai materials into nice bonsai but also advised members on how best to train and care for their plants. IBA organised a visit to the Nursery..on 23rd January 2024 members enjoyed the hospitality of Mr Saini , who gave some important insights on maintaining good health of plants by proper feeding and watering. It was a wonderful outing for the IBA members and an opportunity to buy nice plants from his nursery. A workshop and demonstration was organised by the Indian Bonsai Association on the 25th of November 2023 . Mr Hadi from Indonesia was invited to demonstrate and style trees which are in display at the bonsai park in Lodhi garden . IBA members also got the opportunity to participate and give new styles to their bonsai .
To add to the gaiety of the festival season President Saveena Gadhoke along with her IBA team organised a Bonsai festival at Lodhi Garden, National Bonsai Park from 20th October 2023 to 5th November 2023. This was a great opportunity for all members to showcase their Bonsai plants. This festival was open to public viewing.

As part of Goodwill gesture, Mr koji Yoshida visited the National Bonsai park on 21st October 2023 . Japanese Diplomats visited and appreciated the Bonsai Festival.
As part of the ongoing festival on 28 October 2023, a talk and demonstration was organised, where Mrs Neera Neelambera explained the technique of pruning and aesthetic placement of tree in a tray.
Another demonstration was organised by IBA on the 4 November 2023, where Mrs Renu Vaish gave a demonstration on how to make a landscape using Bonsai trees .
Indian Bonsai Association president Saveena Gadhoke participated in the FLO Fest of FICCI ladies organisation, 2023. On behalf of IBA , a Zen Garden was created by Saveena Gadhoke , Renu Vaish, Jyoti, Shankar and Rekha Modi .
A very interesting topic was touched upon by Mrs Renu Vaish , our former President and a veteran bonsai artist. In the month of August IBA organised a workshop on the 31st , Where Mr Manoj Kumar taught and styled 20 Penjings for the participants and many observers. Participants were delighted to carry home their beautiful Penjings after the workshop. He is a senior bonsai Artist and his expertise in landscape and rock planting is exceptional. Members got the opportunity to learn landscape and group planting during this demonstration. The new board under the leadership of President Saveena Gadhoke, organised a two day session on Transforming a Bonsai on the 14th and 15th July,2023.
To learn the art IBA invited a renowned Bonsai master Anupama Vedachala from Bengaluru. She is an exceptional artist with international acclaim. She beautifully restyled several bonsais of the members of IBA. A large number of members participated in the workshop . It was a delightful, highly informative and excellent learning session of two days. The Annual General Meeting of Indian Bonsai Association was held on 27 April 2023. Agenda of the meeting was reading of the report for 2022,23. Outgoing President Mrs Nupur Agarwal invited the incoming President Mrs Saveena Gadhoke to take over and announce her board.
After the announcements there was a talk by a renowned horticulturalist Mr Mahesh Mishra on fruiting trees . Mr Mishra has been working in this field for 35 years. He specialises in organic farming his arena of work includes forest development in villages, transplanting trees and landscaping .
His talk included detailed information about care , feeding requirements of fruiting bonsai trees. New Delhi Municipal Council ( NDMC ) organized a Flower Festival for the G20 event at Central Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi on the 11th and 12th of March, 2023.
Indian Bonsai Association, New Delhi, was invited to put up a stall exhibiting Bonsai designed by bonsai artists of the association. This stall was a huge success and was appreciated by many garden enthusiasts. Workshop by Sunil Gadhoke on 25th Feb 2023 at Chattarpur farms. Members got a wonderful opportunity to observe the technique of designing and shaping a perfectly balanced bonsai by using heavy power tools. Sunil's patience and passion to work on every plant was highly appreciated by members. Amazing transformation of plants was witnessed in the workshop. Members enjoyed the demonstration, workshop and serenity of beautiful farm. Demonstration by Peter Chan,Bonsai Master (UK) on bonsai pruning,wiring, styling on the bonsai tree. He also demonstrated techniques of Jining and Shari on juniper,Pine,Ficus and many different species. IBA conducted Wiring workshop by Mr Jatin a very talented young Artist on 17th December,2022 at Lodhi Garden New Delhi. Wiring is a very important technique used to train and style Bonsai trees. By wrapping wire around the branches of a tree you can bend and reposition the branches to your liking IBA Meeting on "Plants on Rock" how to grow plants on Rock to create a bonsai by Mr Rishi Bajpai of Noida on 17th November 2022. BA organised a nursery visit for members at Green Grow Bonsai of Mr Saumik Das on 15th October,2022. On this occasion, Mrs Syama Balbir's talk on Bonsai Designing was very enlightening and informative. The members highly appreciated this. IBA meeting on 27th August 2022. Lecture and demonstration on shaping of bonsai by a versatile Bonsai artist Mr Zubair, at YWCA international Guest house. Pruning and Wiring workshop on 4th August,2022 at YWCA, New Delhi. Workshop was conducted by senior Bonsai Artists. Wiring technics were explained by Mrs Renu Vaish. Workshop was highly appreciated by members. Special thanks to Renu Vaish n Syama Balbir for all their support.
Interactive 2 days programme of demonstration and workshop with senior Bonsai artist Mr Vee Choudhary from kakinada, held on 14th & 15th July 2022 at Jorbagh Community centre,New Delhi. He showed how to prune plant to get good ramification in our bonsai. He taught correct way to wire the plants and also how to develop aerial roots by grafting. Workshop was highly appreciated by members.
On 9th March 2022,IBA meeting held at Mrs Syama Balbir's farms, members enjoyed the beautiful & colourful spring blooms and amazing collection of Bonsai. Dr Vivek Kumar our very talented member gave a demonstration to make pots using khangar,net,cement.
Farm was a Nature's beautiful paradise.
First physical meeting of 2022 held on 24th February at Mrs Renu Vashi's (Past President) aesthetically landscape Farm. Bonsai bazaar was organised for members to purchase pots, plants, bonsai accessories , driftwoods etc. Panditji's (Mumbai) exquisite pottery collection was also available. Raffle draw was another attraction of bazaar. Member's plant selection for the exhibition was done by senior board members.
MASTER PEDRO MORALES from Puerto Rico, event organised by IBA on 17th November 2021. Session is on how to Style FICUS emerald.He worked on Cascade style. Members enjoyed the talk thoroughly.

Saumik Das, an IBA member and Bonsai Ambassador of South Asia Bonsai Federation.A Passionate Bonsai lover and Penjing Artist.He not only cultivates and trains these miniature trees, but he also carves fantastic architectural wonders that add a whole new depth and dimension. His creations show the depth of his artistic imagination and experience. His magnificent creation of Angkor Wat (Cambodia) with minute detailing during the IBA demonstration on 28th Aug,2021 is worth appreciation. It was spell bound, unique, & mesmerising Demonstration.
IBA organised demonstration on Windswept Style on 12th August 2021 ,on zoom by Mrs Renu Vaish,international consultant in WBFF(World Bonsai Friendship Federation). She has been teaching bonsai for last 25 years. She is one of the founder member of IBA. She has won many awards in JAL world Bonsai contest .She was honoured by Sasya Bandhu award in Mysore.
Manoj Kumar is among the most experienced Bonsai artist in India. He is also an internationally acclaimed Penjing Master and has been awarded many times.His personal favourite is ‘Formal upright and Penjing landscapes’ . A live Demonstration was conducted by him on Vertical Penjing on 14, July 2021 in New Delhi for Indian Bonsai Association. The demonstration was highly appreciated and attended by a large no. of bonsai lovers.

Teaching us Patience Perseverance and Practice
A very informative talk and demonstration on Penjing was given by Juan Llaga from Philippines. He beautifully explained the different types of Penjings ,its design composition , proportion,harmony and overall artistry.
Our meeting on zoom, with Dr Swadesh Panwar on Junipers was very informative for our members. He shared his vast collection of Junipers with beautiful Jins and Sharis.
We were fortunate to have Mr. Ravindran Damodar from Kerala on zoom to share his vast knowledge about Casuarinas.
Our Past President Dr. Hari Om Ahuja gave an inspiring talk and demonstrated on forest style planting using Jungle Jalebis. We also saw his wonderful display of forests.
With our new session starting on18th July 2020, we had a zoom meeting in which Syama Balbir gave an educative talk about pruning our Bonsais.
Our next meeting was conducted on 30th July 2020 by Renu Vaish on zoom. She demonstrated on a wax malphigia and created a beautiful specimen in a weeping style.
In our January meeting , Renu Vaish our Past President gave an informative talk on Raft style of Bonsai.
The members of IBA had an enriching experience with Anupama Vedachala. She shared her vast knowledge of soil composition and detailed techniques for improving Bonsais especially Junipers and Casuarinas.
A very informative demonstration and workshop of Junipers was conducted by Sunil Gadhoke at his beautiful farm. He has a wonderful collection of old Bonsai plants .
On 20th September, our Past President -Syama Balbir gave an informative talk and demonstration on Bonsai Landscape using Ficus Microcarpas.
On 20th August, we organised a pruning workshop where our members were assisted by seniors to shape their plants.
On 27th August a renowned artist from Kakinada - Mr Veer Chaudhary demonstrated how to make a drastic change on your existing Bonsai. He worked on a Ficus plant and this was followed by a workshop. The meeting was attended by members who came in large numbers and benefitted a lot from the tips he gave.
A whole day workshop on penjing was conducted by Manoj. Beautiful landscapes were created by the members which they enjoyed thoroughly!
In our July meeting, our talented master. Manoj gave an excellent demonstration on landscapes using rocks, depicting a beautiful scenery. Our AGM was held on 26th April 2019. It was followed by a talk given by Syama Balbir on organic manure and pesticides and summer care of bonsai plants.We concluded the meeting with a fun filled raffle. In March 2019 ,the members of Indian Bonsai Association enjoyed the beautiful colourful flowers and Bonsais at Renu Vaish's farm. Mrs Poornima gave a informative talk on organic soil. In our January 2019 meeting the members enjoyed a talk by our Past President , Kiran Jain on Junipers and demonstrated on the techniques and versatility of this plant.IBA Board Members

Bonsai meeting held on the 30th September was on how to create a clump style bonsai with a good Nebari. Mrs Renu Vaish demonstrated on her plant how to improve and make a beautiful bonsai of several plants put together in a clump .

Demonstration is on Casuarina bonsai, by using splitting technic he bended the thick branch.
It was superb demo by Mr.Zubair,lot of new learning and inspiration for IBA members. In his hard work we could see his passion for bonsai. It was very enlightening demonstration! Beautiful transformation of Casuarina.
Organised talk by Bonsai Artist,Veer Choudary on PREMNA Microphylla for Bonsai. He discussed 16 points covering about spices identification and selection, pruning , important tips for thickening the trunk ( in round & in pots), ramification , fertilising & manuring,different style of bonsai, watering pattern, fungicide, basic soil proportion depending upon the region and many more tips. At the end enjoyed the visual tour of BonsaiPedia Studio created by Veer Choudary -bank of knowledge. IBA is very thankful to Veer Choudary, a very talented Bonsai artist and excellent teacher, he gave us the secrets and tips.
